day one hundred fifty-six.

(don't listen to what your friends say; they're just pelicans)

transportation NEWS

i cataloged a report today on the frequency, and potential prevention of, dead pelicans on a causeway in texas. this included some documentation of a patrol dispatched whenever strong winds and cold fronts were coming through the area. i find them oddly beautiful:

Pelican Patrol logs

12/20/96 Drove the bridge at 8:35 am. When I went over the bridge, it was drizzling. I didn't even see a bird.

12/27/96
There was a morning fog that was heavy until noon. Then it cleared.

1/15/97 Drove the bridge at 8:30 am. It was foggy. There were no dead birds.

and on and on
when we left the office, there was a bird with a broken wing writhing around in some twigs.
my fellow intern, scott, tried to assist it, but there was nothing to be done.
