day eighty-five.

i deactivated my facebook (for awhile at least), so now you can only reach me through, oh about 5 other electronic avenues. trying to find some focus, wherever i can.

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

day eighty-four.

signs of spring: daffodils rising from the dead leaves outside my house.

children's book, copyright 1953:

(i am 2/2 in oversleeping this week.)

day eighty-three.

spring break is over, but since i forgot my camera on thursday, i took some pictures of my post-interning afternoon adventures with the phone and just got them on the computer:

my first stop was the museum of contemporary photography at columbia (free!)- an exhibit on modern czech works.

i would like to point out that not only was my bag check number 25, but when i went to save this image to the proper picture folder, i discovered that it fell at being named "break25." spoooooookkkyyyy

exhibit guestbook.

i then ventured over to harold washington library.

browsing their circulating LP collection, floor 8.

tiny people having tiny meetings, in tiny never-to-be-built libraries.

mini blue man group socializing with other monochromatics.

then it got really windy outside and i kept my hands in my pockets.

(i also only figured out today that i can "schedule" a post if i know i won't be home/at the computer. so, sometimes you will be reading things that are posted while i am sleeping and/or in the bathroom. science!)

Sunday, March 28, 2010

day eighty-two.

spring break: part nine.
(or, everything is miscellaneous)
featuring: baked goods, boxes of varying weights, and a dollhouse.

friday.

lemon poppyseed.

your friend and mine, the boombox.

a room with a view.

we put these boxes together, once we made space for them.

these were not in order before. these were all fiction, there were about 40 more for non-fiction shoved in a corner that we didn't even get to.

box guts (or, books).

tiny piano.

tinier food.

Saturday, March 27, 2010

day eighty-one.

spring break: part eight.

last night was a lot of fun, and makes me wish i could hang out more often.

[rachelle and jenny are laughing during final jeopardy]

jc: i asked if we should plug our ears if they're talking, and she thought i said 'should we plug our rears'
kevin: if it helps!

succeeded in sleeping until 12:30 pm today, venturing out to target, cooking a real non-sandwichy dinner, and lounging with a book. also, the history channel aired a show called "sex in the civil war," so i'm pretty sure someone in programming knew i'd be in front of a television.

Friday, March 26, 2010

day eighty.

spring break: part seven.

annnnnddd my commuting days are done.
i'm actually relieved to be starting classes again on monday.
will update with more photo documentation of the remainder of my city experience, once i have been properly re-socialized (with a jeopardy night) and have slept at least 12 hours (suck it, alarm clock).

Thursday, March 25, 2010

day seventy-nine.

spring break: part six.

we talked about this ad campaign in my libraries & society class; they use tattooed and artsy types to promote CPL.
("not what you think," or, libraries are cool!)

i met up with emma for lunch today, which we both agreed was funny since neither of us live in chicago.
we discussed report cards for dogs and how the french teenagers who's Lycée rents rooms from the university i'm at like to eat lunch/touch each other in the library.

in other news, my sinuses hurt and i have spent most of the week moving books on and off of carts/assembling box lids. i am ready for this so-called vacation to be over.

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

day seventy-eight.

spring break: part five.

where i am this week. the view to the left is killer.

gyros: the sexy meat.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

day seventy-seven.

spring break: part four.

the building i'm interning in was designed by daniel burnham. architecture bonus!

i ate lunch outside.

there are people in there cleaning/fixin' the spitting face fountain.

adams street lamp post.

Monday, March 22, 2010

day seventy-six.

spring break: part three.

hello, fellow commuters.

a diet coke. with my name on it. literally.

(so very tired.)

Sunday, March 21, 2010

day seventy-five.

spring break: part two.

had a fun lunch/card playing/himym quoting festival at the earlywacz house today, followed by a family dinner.
now i'm watching 'the soup' and willing my wintery coat to air dry by morning.
i plan to sleep on the train.

Saturday, March 20, 2010

day seventy-four.

spring break: part one.

the bus broke down for about 5 minutes when we were barely on the highway.
the guy across from me called his mom to tell her what was going on and i heard her warn him not to try to get off the bus and get hit by a truck. "mom, WHY would i try to fix the bus."
several other dudes were panicking that they didn't bring coats when they heard about the snow up north.

lousy smarch weather.

later on i went to trader joe's and bought food for the week with my mom, made a quinoa salad for the pot-luck lunch tomorrow, and enjoyed broccoli with garlic sauce from yen-yen.

Friday, March 19, 2010

day seventy-three.

happy spring break- though it is less of a break than i'd like. but since it does feel like spring, i will let it slide. be good to me, chicago.

also, purchased tickets for 2 april concerts today: david bazan/headlights and the antlers. boom.

Thursday, March 18, 2010

day seventy-two.

my sunglasses are broken.
but, my week of hellish levels of schoolwork is now over!
moving forward, to drink diet coke and enjoy not having my heat on.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

day seventy-one.

from work, a nomination for book review of the week:

The Laughing Bird, by Anita Hewett

"Dull writing, having neither the attraction of humor nor the usefulness of nature information. The basis for the book is irrational; what we call 'laughter' is his bird language."

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

day seventy.

is it weird that i wanted my first census form to take longer?

Monday, March 15, 2010

day sixty-nine.

happy crafting, from the 1970s.

i took a 2.5 hour nap so that i don't forget how to spell while typing my presentation for wednesday.
there was also a bit of ant genocide happening in my kitchen.

Sunday, March 14, 2010

day sixty-seven.

happy pi day!
since i was already in the area, i also got to attend my niece and nephew's birthday party today.
the decorations were a mix of hot wheels and butterflies.
i ate a mountain of baba ghanoush, then headed to catch my bus back to school. on the ride back, i did that thing where i almost fall asleep sitting upright and have to stop myself from drooling on my coat.

day sixty-six(ish).

the wedding was amazing.
ashley is one of my oldest friends for a reason- she is unabashedly warm and kindhearted, and someone i am proud to know and love.

i had to wash my feet when i got home last night from all the shoeless dancing.
this type of exhaustion and happiness is welcome anytime.

Friday, March 12, 2010

day sixty-five.

fedora friday: canadian edition.
posting will be a little off this weekend, as i will be at aforementioned wedding saturday.
i'll make up for it with a special two-part post on sunday, assuming i do not fall asleep at 7 pm.

Thursday, March 11, 2010

day sixty-four.

this has been an extremely busy week (and next week might be worse) but i haven't let it get me down- lovely weather, the return of drinking peach iced tea, and being a part of one of my oldest friend's wedding this saturday.
sometimes, the madness of mid-semester can be okay.

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Tuesday, March 9, 2010

day sixty-two.

my spanish book is an unbound, black and white volume- essentially an expensive photocopy of the text our professor uses.
this has not been a problem until today:

good thing i remembered them.

Sunday, March 7, 2010

day sixty.

my own personal oscar party will consist of eating hummus on crackers in my pajamas.
i think colin firth should win, though it is unlikely.
today is a good day.

Saturday, March 6, 2010

day fifty-nine.

my selection for the western unit of adult pop lit.
12 pages in, and the lead character has already escaped from maritime captivity by beating in the captain's face.
oh, and in googling an image of cover art, i discovered that it was made into a movie starring tom selleck (bonus).

Friday, March 5, 2010

day fifty-eight.

a special "lady edition" of fedora friday:

(sister)

also, i guess if you live on green street it is written into your lease that you must shout at and/or spill things on pedestrians on this, the u of i's holiest of holidays (frat boy christmas)

Thursday, March 4, 2010

day fifty-seven.

a (sort-of) typical thursday:

-put on a blazer, because i mean business
-worked at the library
-bought bus tickets for going to ashley m's wedding!
-spanish class
-haircut (couldn't keep up with reality tv conversations amongst stylists. but from what i gather, vienna is not marriage material)
-heard the following while waiting for the bus:

Girl: Basically everyone who works everywhere wants to have sex with me, so I keep getting shit for free- Let me break it down for you like that!
Girl's friend- Giiiiiirrrrlllll.

i have a spanish exam tonight. er- tengo un examen de español esta noche.
also, unofficial is tomorrow, which makes me cranky.

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

day fifty-six.

busy, busy, busy as (librarian) bees
watching a magical live stream of law & order svu (with a bonus kathy griffin) while i unpack my brain

contemplating going to sleep by 10 pm
this makes me unreasonably excited

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Monday, March 1, 2010

day fifty-four.

this is after deleting and re-acquiring the artwork through the iTunes system, thinking it must have been a mistake the first time.
cover flow view, you are being turned back off.
