day two hundred twenty-nine.

yesterday was my sister katie's engagement party, complete with 97% of my extended family and a stanley cup cake:

(i kept calling it a cup cake and i don't think anyone thought that was funny except me)
(i still think it is)
(it is)

one little boy couldn't believe that it was actually a cake, until...

oops.

(or was it ALIENS?)

and look, a cooler just for me

my 2 year old niece enjoyed playing with my camera and eating cookies

classes and my return to cataloging children's literature starts tomorrow.
for now, i'm listening to jenny lewis at the library and pretending i'm not hearing the person at the table next to me talk to her study buddy about what happened at a house party last night (but oh boy, things happened).

she had friends there representing aspects of her entire life: grade school, high school, college, grad school, law school, denmark, scotland, london, and DC

today i watched two movies on tv and (sort of) worked on my paper. sunday night UNO party starts now.

day one hundred ninety-four.

back to business as usual: the business of posting pictures of food.

last night i had dinner with librarian friends scott, jessica, nicole, and jessica's roommate marley.
we tried going to jaleo, home of wonderful tapas, but opted for rosa mexicana so we could make our 9:30 movie. nicole was entertained by her view of a puppy outside.

we had time to pick up dessert afterwards:

red velvet

death stare

jessica, scott, and i then saw "inception" at gallery place (no spoilers here, so no worries).
i went in knowing as little as possible about the plot, which i think was a good move.
i'm fascinated by dreams and the subconcious and soundtracks consisting of tuba blasts, so it was really enjoyable.
it was also essentially architecture porn for scott.

i carried my cupcake in its tiny box in my purse through the movie
it held up pretty well, but not so much on the metro home

uh-oh
still delicious: black velvet (vegan/gluten free chocolate with faux buttercream)

my brain was still moving when i got home, so i finished my latest book:

one more theory about happiness, by paul guest

i knew i was going to like it when i started crying beneath my sunglasses on the bus by chapter two.

day one hundred seven.

happy birthday, earth.

i can feel the end of the semester in my bones.
i just want to wear dresses and eat watermelon all the month of may.

(photo via cake wrecks, but i don't have the exact link because i saved it a long time ago sorry okay)

day sixty-seven.

happy pi day!
since i was already in the area, i also got to attend my niece and nephew's birthday party today.
the decorations were a mix of hot wheels and butterflies.
i ate a mountain of baba ghanoush, then headed to catch my bus back to school. on the ride back, i did that thing where i almost fall asleep sitting upright and have to stop myself from drooling on my coat.

day one.

25

homemade birthday - vegan chocolate cake with chocolate glaze.
the butterfly sprinkles were mostly for the benefit of my niece and nephew- aged nearly 2 and nearly 5.
i have officially outgrown the single box of candles.
