day two hundred thirty-six.

holding onto the last particles of summer

sweet corn!

my sister beth, friend katie, and i saw soul asylum play at sweet corn festival last night as well. we waited 75 minutes (highlighted by a wyclef cover) to hear "runaway train" and then peaced out. they wished us all a happy harvest. worth it.

now doing spanish homework at la biblioteca.
i bought the "clueless" soundtrack at the booksale yesterday and it was the soundtrack to my sunday toast. amazing.

day two hundred thirty-five.

from the desk of a cataloger:

four (or, why children's books often don't have author photographs).

and the neighborhood

a rugby game has been watched in the park today, sweet corn and brewed root beer consumed, and a book sale attended to. the possibilities of an afternoon nap are currently being explored.

Thursday, August 26, 2010

day two hundred thirty-three.

i pass by this statue every day on my way into work at the library.
i've never really taken notice of it before; its just been one of those giant things you see every day and allow your brain to ignore.
yesterday when i was pulling something out of my bag, i decided to read the plaque for whatever reason:

the same gallaudet university i lived just a few short blocks from in DC.
the east is calling me back...

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

day two hundred thirty-two.

the fridge in the GSLIS basement

sending emails, eating granola, organizing. all night long.

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

day two hundred thirty-one.

author photographs: a demonstration of effective methods

also, be named john stewart

portray your literacy

and when in doubt, flip it for your next book.

Monday, August 23, 2010

day two hundred thirty.

(i'm looking at you, jessica)

i started work this morning, in the land of snarky reviews pasted into books and odd subject matter:

then my bank was inexplicably playing "up" to an audience of no one.

long day, but i returned home to mail and the soundtrack of sufjan's ode to the apocalypse.
a good start to the semester, i'd say.

Sunday, August 22, 2010

day two hundred twenty-nine.

yesterday was my sister katie's engagement party, complete with 97% of my extended family and a stanley cup cake:

(i kept calling it a cup cake and i don't think anyone thought that was funny except me)
(i still think it is)
(it is)

one little boy couldn't believe that it was actually a cake, until...

(or was it ALIENS?)

and look, a cooler just for me

my 2 year old niece enjoyed playing with my camera and eating cookies

classes and my return to cataloging children's literature starts tomorrow.
for now, i'm listening to jenny lewis at the library and pretending i'm not hearing the person at the table next to me talk to her study buddy about what happened at a house party last night (but oh boy, things happened).

Saturday, August 21, 2010

day two hundred twenty-eight.

at gslis

law-abiding printer

our bathrooms are dramatic.

and out in the world:

mmmm, sandy

in chicagoland for the daytime hours, as there is an engagement to celebrate, food to eat, and family to see.

Friday, August 20, 2010

day two hundred twenty-seven.

happy dance friday from the bowels of the GSLIS building.
thus far, i recruited new students at orientation to be volunteers at the library and drank free diet coca-cola.
it was refreshing to see everyone so excited about the start of the semester.
friends, pridefest, and more free wi-fi to come...

Thursday, August 19, 2010

day two hundred twenty-six.

the dorms are moving in today, so i am maintaining my distance from green st. and campus until much later.

but i did get a nice walk in yesterday afternoon, updating myself on current construction projects and the status of sorority recruitment (i didn't miss it guys, DON'T WORRY).

(sorry jj)
